Pride Month: Reflecting on and Supporting LGBTQ+ History
CreativeMC’s headquarters is in San Francisco, California, a city rooted in history with the Castro, an internationally recognized neighborhood that is known as the center of the LGBTQ+ universe. Just like our incredible city, CreativeMC is determined to be a company that supports change and continues to champion equality for all.
This Pride month, we’re following our city’s Pride parade theme by taking the opportunity to “look back and move forward” - amplifying the unifying message to reflect and support the LGBTQ+ community's resilience and determination to fight for equality and justice.
The History of Pride
In June 1969, the modern-day LGBTQ+ civil rights movement began. After one too many police raids, the patrons, staff, and neighborhood residents of a gay club in NYC’s Greenwich village (called Stonewall Inn) rioted into Christopher Street for six days. Marsha P. Johnson, a black, trans, bisexual woman, led the movement where protestors demanded a safe space where LGBTQ+ people could go and be open about their sexual orientation. As a tribute to those involved in the Stonewall Riots, Pride Month is celebrated every June.
History isn't something you look back at and say it was inevitable, it happens because people make decisions that are sometimes very impulsive and of the moment, but those moments are cumulative realities.”

A Symbol of Hope
The Pride flag was born in San Francisco through a collaboration between artist Gilbert Baker and the first openly gay politician, Harvey Milk. After winning the election, Milk consulted with Gilbert Baker to create a symbol of pride for the gay community. Homemade and hand dyed, Gilbert created the Rainbow flag. Each of the flag’s original eight colors represented meaning: pink for sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sun, green for nature, turquoise for magic, blue for peace, and purple for spirit.
All young people, regardless of sexual orientation or identity, deserve a safe and supportive environment in which to achieve their full potential.”
Pride at work
Major corporations – including many of our clients – celebrate LGBTQ+ communities in their own teams by supporting Pride in a variety of ways. Whether it’s participating in local Pride parades, hosting Pride events, and creating Pride-themed swag - there are big and small ways to show acknowledgement, support, and acceptance for LGBTQ+ members.
